Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.
Locally the Rotary Club of East Hampton is best known for our service to the local community. We provide scholarships for students entering college and vocational schools; money and food for our food and fuel banks in East Hampton and Marlborough; enhancing literacy by providing dictionary’s to third graders; and jointly with our Interact Club at East Hampton High School, “Breakfast with Santa”; Old Home Day, and many other special projects.
Internationally we are involved in -Youth Exchange, water projects, and Polio eradication in the world.
There is a more important aspect of service that is foundational to all aspects of Rotary. It is service to each other. When we attend weekly meetings with interesting programs, we have the opportunity to encourage and inspire one another. When we attend meetings, we build relationships with each other that strengthen ourselves and each other. The most important service we can do is taking the time to understand another member.
I personally welcome all to find-out more about Rotary and its numerous civic projects. Please be my guest at our next meeting. A list of current members is included on our website www.easthamptonrotary.org . To find out more about Rotary please use the "Contact Us" hot-spot in the left hand column of our home page.
Yours in Rotary,
Barbara Moore
